No More Late Fees

I was returning my library items a few weeks ago (late, as usual.) The nice lady behind the desk asked me if I had e-mail reminders. E-mail reminders? Never heard of it and I can't believe that no one else had bothered to tell me about it. I guess then they would have to get their income somewhere else. So, I signed up and now, a couple of days before my books/videos are due, they email me and remind me. I think I've already saved a bunch of money. Check into it at your library and see if they're as techno-savvy as they are at mine. Could save you some late fees.

Oooh, I think I should do this 9but manually) - I remembered about 30 minutes before the library closed and I was away from home without the library number. So I didn't make it. I dread to think what it will be.

Oooooo...I LOVE this idea! And, I just emailed my local library and provided the link to this post! LOL

I am definitely going to see if my library offers this service. I've paid more than I'd like to remember in library fees. :)

The library in our town does this too. So helpful isn't it?

Seeing that I just paid $30 in late fees last week, I LOVE this WFMW! I don't think my library has it, but if I suggest it I bet they will implement it! Thanks!

Awesome tip, isn't it? Our library has online book requesting(even from other branches in town) so a person can search online and pick up books at the desk(or someone else can if running errands for you). We've received recorded messages via phone that they've arrived from other branches, too. If a boo boo happens and books are returned late(and sometimes after closing in the book return slot), there is even online paying for fees. A far cry from the library where we used to live(card catalog in a drawer ~ but oh so quaint a little library it was).

Our local library doesn't have late fees for city residents, but they'll still send out the reminders. They still want the books back, afterall!

One thing to ask your library is if they charge homeschoolers late fees. My library and the twon over both do not because they don't charge teachers of any kind late fees. Also, if it is hard to get to the library often, if you homeschool you can ask for 3-4 weeks to return things. Definetly worth looking into!

Just a tip: Our library has a special library card for teachers that allows for longer lending times and NO FEES ever! I asked for a teacher card, as a homeschooling mom, and they honored my request!

Great tip! I receive weekly reminders like this via email too - it's a huge help. We try to do "Library Day" on the same day of each week, since DVDs are only good for one week. There have been times that I've been headed out of town though and the email reminder has prompted me to renew anything due that week online, saving me the fees. At a dollar a day per DVD, it adds up WAY too fast otherwise!
